Think of us as the University’s on-campus recruitment agency. We help students find temporary paid work whilst you’re studying and a graduate job once you’ve finished.
Here’s a sobering thought: graduate who have had no previous work experience are ‘unlikely to be successful’ during the selection process and have ‘little or no chance’ of receiving a job offer for their organisations’ graduate programmes(High Fliers 2015)
The work experience you gain whilst you study helps you to stand out in a crowd. Work experience shows prospective employers you have the soft skills to complement your academic qualifications, like good communication skills, reliability, working with others and self-management.
By registering with us you’ve made a good start, we’ll send you job alerts about the vacancies we’re recruiting for. However, the best way to apply for jobs is online. And, did you know our jobs board also has opportunities from companies and other recruiters wanting to employ students and graduates to? Visit eb.anglia.ac.uk for more information.
What sort of jobs do we have?
If you are looking for temporary work internally, then we have lots of different roles, which will all fit around your studies;
Student Ambassador Ruskin the Rhino Digital Ambassador
Sports Activator Mock Patient Bar Staff
Mumford Theatre Staff Course Specific Ambassador Cafeteria Staff
The list goes on …(*generally, not specifically in this blog)
How much do we pay?
Well, good news for everyone! Anglia Ruskin are proud to be living wage accredited, so the Employment Bureau will be paying the minimum of £9 per hour for all INTERNAL roles at ARU.
We do have some roles that will pay more, so ensure you keep and eye out for these.
We worked out that if you work with us for two 8 hour days every week for 4 weeks, it would pay your rent for one month! (Assuming you don’t live in a castle)
Or even just one hours work would pay for your Netflix subscription.
When are we open?
Call, email, tweet, Facebook message or just come in to say hello…
There are no stupid question! So don’t be afraid to ask. We understand that this may be a whole new experience for most of the students starting at Anglia Ruskin, but we are here to help guide you through the application process, attending interviews and working. We work closely with the Employability Service who can help you create or update your CV, answer any questions that you have regarding employment, placements, internships and graduate roles. They will even conduct a mock interview with you to settle your nerves and provide some encouragement guidance.
We also offer customer service training for all of our temporary staff. It is recommended that you attend as it will help you with any roles that you undertake, whether that be internally or externally and for after you graduate. If you apply to be a Student Ambassador, we also have training to ensure that you can conduct a campus tour for visitors and gain the knowledge and confidence needed. The Student Ambassador Scheme runs throughout the year and is a great way to learn and develop skills, and will look great on your CV.
And finally… Where are we?
